Fighting Against Dengue: Necessary Prevention Measures!

Dengue Preventions

“Hospitals running short of beds”, “Hospitals over crowded”, “Major Outbreak”… Ever wondered why such titles are covering the very first page of the newspapers nowadays? Yes, you are guessing it right! Dengue fever! It is spreading like a wildfire across the nation; northern, central and eastern India being the worst hit. Latest reports also state that, Delhi has topped the list.

Last time, high fatality rate was reported in the year 1996 with more than 3 per cent deaths. However, this limit has been crossed this year as a significant rise in the number of deaths is frequently being reported over the time. So far 19, 704 cases have been reported with 41 deaths compared with 37 deaths last year. Therefore, it has become a prime concern, both for the government as well as for the masses.

It is a popular adage, “PRVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE”. Though, government is trying its best in providing A-class treatment to the patients, yet you never know when the situation turns out to be the worst as a lot depends upon the monsoon pattern, which is always unpredictable. So, it is important to know about the disease from the scratch and learn ways to keep yourself from becoming the victim because there is a lot that you can do to keep yourself as well as your family safe. Read on.

Dengue Preventions

  • Female Aedes Aegypti, the dengue causing mosquito breeds in closets, corners and dark area in domestic places. So, step ahead, checkout every corner of your home, trash the junk and spray a mosquito repellent today. This is the very first, and of course, the cheapest measure you can take to save yourself from the outbreak.
  • Stagnant water is yet another breeding ground for mosquitoes. If you haven’t changed the water of your cooler, or have observed stagnant water near your home, surroundings do not wait even for second. Change the water in the cooler and clean your surrounding right now. Once done, spray a pesticide named Abate to keep the situation under control.
  • There is no vaccine to prevent dengue. So, everything is in your hand. Dengue causing mosquitoes are usually active before the sunrise and after the sunset for about 2 to 3 hours. So, during this time, or probably during the monsoon season, wear clothes that cover you up completely. This ways, mosquitoes will not be able to taste your blood!
  • Usually applying ointments is not that safe for kids and infants, but still by being very careful you can get ointments like Odomos and apply it in your skin to drive off the mosquitoes. Make sure you don’t apply it in the hands.
  • Use mosquito nets and spray an insecticide on these nets to keep the insects away. It is not uncommon to find nets, so you can easily get them at the stores in cheapest possible prices.
  • In cases, you are feeling low and your body temperature has gone high, do not waste your time by taking medicines on your own. Consult a specialist, get yourself tested and treated for the problem at the earliest.

Rather than depending upon the government and the community alone, it is beneficial to follow the necessary measures. So, pull up your socks to fight against dengue-causing mosquitoes today!
