An awareness talk on “Mental Health & Addiction disorders” was held at Commando Complex, Phase -11, Mohali. The talk was organized by the team of Medical officers, Police officials at the complex. The event attracted a crowd of more than 70 individuals which included doctors, police officials, school principal & teachers among the general community members. The talk was delivered by Dr. Satinder Cheema, MD Psychiatry, Consultant at CMC Mohali.
The highlights of the talk were:
> Accepting Mental Health as an Integral part of the overall well being of a human being.
> Defining & conceptualizing Mental Health, it’s parameters, role in the personal, professional & social life of an individual.
> Understanding the importance of mental health at the community level, its role in the perpetuation of community growth & perseveration of social harmony & structure.
> Role of Mental Health given its due weight among special populations such as children, women & elderly.
> How positive Mental health can positively affect high-risk populations such as our security forces!
> Early signs & symptoms of Common Mental Health disorders, their recognition & pathways to care were elaborated to the audience.
> Words were said about the Common Addiction Disorders, it’s signs, pathways to care & most importantly to accept it as a Psychological & Medical Illness.
> A question & answer session was conducted wherein many doubts & myths prevailing in the community were answered.
The most fulfilling for the team & Dr. Satinder was the active & keen participation of the audience & we really hope that it brings a small but positive change in the outlook of the community for Mental Health & Addiction Disorders!!
