Cosmetics and skin care in acne

Cosmetics and skin care

  • Soaps are not recommended as they might dry up the skin and make it more irritated.
  • Try using soap free cleansers with ph of 5-7.
  • Do not wash your face very frequently as it is counter productive leading to rebound oiliness due to irritation of the oil glands.
  • Steaming and scrubbing can make acne worse.
  • To remove makeup using cleansing milk is always better than a toner or an astringent.
  • Avoid cosmetics with fragrances. If using foundation look for oil free or water based foundations.
  • You can also use exfoliators such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid and resorcinol as cleansers, washes or leave on gels. They speed up the natural renewal of skin cells.
  • You need to moisturize your skin because of the dryness caused by anti acne medications. Again look for an oil free moisturizer to correct dryness.
  • Most sunscreens can be too oily for acne prone skin. Look for gel based sunscreens.
  • You can use masks containing clay, kaolin, and talc which can absorb the excess sebum making skin temporarily dry.

Consult our highly skilled dermatologist at CMC Mohali if you are suffering from any kind of skin problem.
